Dictation Mode
Dictation mode is the core feature of QuasarSpeak, allowing you to speak and have your words transcribed in real-time.
Overview
When dictation is active, QuasarSpeak listens to your microphone and transcribes your speech. The transcribed text is automatically inserted at your cursor position in any application.
Starting Dictation
Press and hold the global hotkey (default: Ctrl+Alt+Space) to start dictation. Release to transcribe and insert text.
Dictation Modes
Block Mode (Push-to-Talk)
Hold Ctrl+Alt+Space while speaking. Text is transcribed when you release the key.
Best for: Quick insertions, short commands, precise control over when text appears.
Continuous Mode
Enable continuous mode in Settings for longer dictation sessions:
- Hold the hotkey to start
- Speak naturally — see real-time preview in the overlay
- Release to confirm and insert text
- Press Escape to discard
Best for: Longer dictation, reviewing before insertion, drafting documents.
Best Practices
- Speak naturally - Don't over-enunciate
- Use voice commands - Say "new line" or "comma" for formatting
- Pause for sentences - Natural pauses help with accuracy
- Minimize background noise - Close windows, mute notifications
